A PAIR OF GEORGE I STYLE GILT-WOOD AND GESSO CONSOLES TABLES

A Pair of George I Style Gilt-Wood and Gesso Console Tables

The original rectangular Breccia Violeta marble tops, with thumb-moulded edges, are positioned above a gesso-cut frieze intricately carved with flowing acanthus foliage and trestlework. The frieze is flanked by Gothic arches set against a punched background. The tables rest on elegant cabriole legs, each richly carved with the head of Hera, the Greek Queen of the Gods and goddess of marriage, women, the heavens, the sky, and the stars.
